Recently at work i experienced having a problem with one of my HP Compaq computers, Now the Compaq computers are used for students training and what happened was the student turned it off and left it, the next day there was no one near the computer and as she turned it on it only flashed 3 Red flashes a second apart wit 2 seconds pause after the 3 flashes.

Here is what i tried and what worked for me:

I tried re seating the RAM as its the most common problem, ( try it and if it works for you ) did not work for me.

I Tried replacing the RAM with RAM i knew worked, Did not work for me.

I then visited HP website and they said that 3 red flashes means there are no processor or it is installed incorrectly, since it was already there i just tried re seating it and it did the same 3 flashes.

I then tried re seating the bios but it did not work.

Finally i disconnected all from each other and i read that taking out the CMOS battery could solve the problem in computers that makes peeps and not lights flashing, so i experimented with it, i took out the CMOS and hold the BIOS reset button in for a minute i left the machine for 60 minutes without anything connected and without the battery, it finally turned on and started working right away when i connected all the connectors and extra hardware including the CMOS battery.

Note: THE HP COMPAQ COMPUTER WE USE IN THE OFFICE DOES NOT HAVE BIOS JUMPERS ONLY A BIOS RESET BUTTON.
